Harlan, Tri-City fall

Chris Jones | Daily Enterprise Harlan’s Abbi Fields took a hearty cut against Pulaski County on Saturday in the District 4 Tournament at Huff Park. Harlan dropped into the losers bracket after falling 25-3.


A scorching hot day at the District 4 Tournament (ages 9-10) did not go well for the two Harlan County entrants as both Tri-City and Harlan suffered lopsided losses.

Tri-City fell behind 8-0 in the first inning on the way to a 19-7 loss to McCreary County, and Harlan gave up 10 runs in the first inning against Pulaski County and lost 25-3.

Carley Thomas had the only hit for the Harlan All-Stars with a fourth-inning single.

Harlan scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings.

Hailey Austin walked to lead off the first and came around to score on an errant throw while she was stealing third base.

Mallory McNiel reached base on an error in the second inning and later scored an another error.

Lindsey Skidmore walked in the fourth inning, then stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.

Thomas started on the mound and worked the first 1 1/3 innings. Riley Jo Maggard pitched the final 2 2/3 innings.

Josaylyn Lee had the big hit for Tri-City in the opening game with a three-run inside the park homer to deep center field in the th third inning. Cheyann Steele added two singles and an RBI. Bebe Estep, R.J. Adams, Kayla Duckworth, Jade Burton and Kera Collins added one single each.

McKenna Mann led McCreary with a double, two singles and a walk. Chelsea Whitehead and Olivia Wilder added two singles each. Megan Loudermilk, Ava Stephens, Corrine Trammel, Andrea Bruce and Cadence King contributed one single each.

Mann earned the win as she pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits. Loudermilk recorded the final two outs, giving up one hit.

McCreary will play North Laurel on Sunday at 5 in the winners bracket semifinals. Tri-City will play Hazard/Perry at 7 p.m., with the winner playing Harlan on Monday at 6 p.m.

North Laurel defeated Hazard 16-1 and Pulaski County downed South Laurel 19-9 in first-round games Friday to open the tournament.
