HC, Harlan play at UK camp

Harlan senior point guard Jordan Brock worked inside for two points during action in the Union College Team Camp earlier this summer. Brock led the Lady Dragons to two wins in three games Wednesday at the University of Kentucky Team Camp.


It was a good day of basketball for Harlan County teams on Wednesday in the University of Kentucky Team Camp as the Harlan County High School varsity team won three of three games, Harlan won two of three and the Harlan County junior varsity team won two blowouts.

Harlan County rolled past Lakewood, Ohio 44-21 in the Lady Bears’ opening scrimmage as Blair Green and Kaylea Gross each had big games. HCHS rolled past Sycamore, Ohio 59-23, then closed the camp with a 45-44 overtime victory over Glen Este, Ohio, as Gross hit a free throw to give the Lady Bears a win in sudden death.

Harlan County (12-2) returns to action Thursday with two games at Corbin High School.

Harlan (8-3) opened the camp with a 52-21 loss to Campbell County, but then bounced back to defeat Model 43-25 and Liberty Union, Ohio, 47-42.

Harlan County improved to 7-1 in junior varsity action. The Lady Bears coasted past Estill County 42-9 and Frankfort 44-10.

Both the Harlan County and Harlan boys teams will play in the AAU state tournament this weekend at the Kentucky Basketball Academy.
