HYDEN — Harlan took on two of the 14th Region’s top teams on Tuesday in Hyden and earned a split, defeating Hazard 39-34 before falling to Leslie County 48-29.
Senior guard Jordan Brock scored 18 points to lead the Lady Dragons against Hazard, including a couple of 3-pointers early as Harlan raced to an 8-0 lead. Brock scored 14 of Harlan’s points in the first half as the Lady Dragons outscored Hazard 22-18.
Mackenzie King added nine points for Harlan, including a 3-pointer and a jumper in the second half as the Lady Dragons edged Hazard 17-16 in the second 20-minute period.
Taylor Simpson and Brandi Haywood each scored three points against Hazard. Payeton Charles and Amber King added two each. Noah Canady and Natalee King each scored one.
Harlan outscored Leslie County, the defending 14th Region champs, 19-16 in the first half, but the Lady Eagles overpowered the Harlan reserves in the second half in winning 32-10 in the second 20-minute period.
Brock scored nine and Natalee King added five for the Lady Dragons. Mackenzie King tossed in four. Katelyn Burkhart scored three. Simpson and Canady added two each. Amber King and Whitney Wilson each scored one.
With the split, Harlan is 6-2 in summer action.
