The Harlan County High School boys’ track team snagged a second place finish at the Region 7 Class AA Meet at Leslie County on Saturday and will now be sending several runners to the state meet in Louisville next week.
The Black Bears’ 4 x 800 team started the day off right with a second-place finish to send them to state. The team consists of seniors Donavan Johnson and Caleb Justen, junior Noah Hughes and sophomore Steven Engle and recorded a personal record time of 9.38.
Senior Josh Wynn sprinted to second-place finishes in both the 200-meter dash (24.12 time) and 100-meter dash (11.69), while teammate Chad Linquist, also a senior, placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.60.
The 4 x 100 relay team came in second to earn a trip to Louisville. Seniors Justin Napier, Coty Miracle and Wynn joined junior Adam Clem on the team.
The Black Bears earned 88 points in the team standings, behindn only Letcher Central.
Lady Bear Kayla Moore qualified for state with a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.55.
The state meet begins Friday at the University of Louisville’s soccer and track stadium.
