The second annual Harlan County Safety Days Mine Rescue Competition began Tuesday on the Cumberland Campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College. Organized by Cumberland Tourism, Safety Days brings coal mine rescue teams from throughout the nation to not only compete, but hone their skills in case mine emergencies happen. This year, 19 mine rescue teams from six different states are competing. Safety Days concludes Thursday night with an awards banquet at the School House Inn at Benham.
