McNiel shuts down Leslie County
by An Enterprise Staff Report

The Harlan offense put up three runs in the first inning and Dylan McNiel took care of the rest Tuesday, as the Green Dragons picked up a 10-1 win at Leslie County.

McNiel struck out four batters, while allowing just four hits and one walk in the complete-game performance on the mound.

The Dragons provided more than enough run support in the first inning.

Caleb Hogue led off the inning with a single. McNiel followed with a single of his own. Ben Abraham then singled up the middle to drive in both runners. Abraham scored when Tye Patrick reached base on an error to make it 3-0.

Harlan extended its lead to 7-0 with four runs in the second inning.

Hogue reached base on an error. McNiel followed with a single. Jordan Turbyfill loaded the bases with a walk. Abraham cleared them in the next at-bat with a three-run double. Abraham later scored on a single by Patrick.

The Green Dragons tacked on two more runs in the third inning.

Hogue started the offense with a single. McNiel then drew a walk. Turbyfill drove in the first run of the inning with a single. McNiel scored when Abraham hit into a fielder’s choice.

Harlan scored its final run in the sixth inning.

Jacob Clark reached base on an error. Austin Miller advanced on a single. Caleb Hogue added another single to load the bases. McNiel then hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in Clark.

Abraham had a double and two singles to lead the Harlan offense. Hogue delivered three singles. McNiel, Turbyfill, Miller, Corey Burns and Marshall Ward all recorded two singles. Patrick and Clark each added a single.

Harlan (15-10) returns to action today at Perry Central in a double-header. Leslie County (8-8) will face Betsey Layne on Friday.
