An Enterrpise Staff Report
Harlan County High School’s latest state-of-the-art facility will be on full display Friday, as the Black Bears will open Coal Miners’ Memorial Stadium against Bell County.
Harlan County Schools Superintendent Mike Howard confirmed that news Monday.
“We are proud to announce we will be playing Bell County at our Harlan County Coal Miner’s Memorial Stadium,” Howard said. “We certainly understand the excitement in the community about the field. This is a big game for our program and we hope the community turns out to support us on Friday.”
Harlan County secured its third straight district title with a victory at Perry Central last week. The district championship will gibe the Bears the opportunity to host the first four rounds of the postseason.
“I know the kids are excited about it,” said Harlan County coach Tom Larkey. “It is really nice. It probably seats more than most junior colleges do. I would say that is one time they may see those 6,000 seats packed out.”
The game has been selected as WYMT’S Game of the Week and will be broadcast live on the television station.
“I imagine the people that don’t get to come the game from other counties may be watching it on T.V.,” Larkey said.
Senior Night activities will be prior to Friday’s contest, and kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
