Dragons claim senior night win

The Harlan Green Dragons honored seniors Dylan McNiel and Jonathan Risner with a 15-5 rout of visiting June Buchanan on senior night Wednesday.

June Buchanan opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning, but Harlan answered with three in the bottom of the inning.

Risner started the offense with a walk. McNiel also drew a walk, and both runners advanced on a steal. Risner scored when Corey Burns grounded out. Tye Patrick later reached on a walk. Jordan Turbyfill drove in the final two runs of the inning with a single.

Harlan went up 9-2 with a six run second inning.

Jacob Clark, Austin Browning and Risner all walked to load the bases. Dylan McNiel drove in all three runners with a single to the outfield fence. McNiel scored on a Burns groundout. Ben Abraham then delivered a solo home run to left field. Tye Patrick reached base on a triple and later scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Turbyfill.

June Buchanan closed the gap to 9-3 with a run in the third inning, but the Green Dragons stretched their lead to nine runs with three more in the bottom half.

Caleb Hogue reached base first with a walk. He stole second and scored on a single from Burns. Abraham followed with a single and Patrick walked to load the bases. Turbyfill forced in a run on a walk, and Miller drew another walk to score another run.

The Crusaders scored one run in the fourth inning, but Harlan responded with two of its own.

Caleb Hogue reached base on a double. Dylan McNiel drove in the runner with a single. Patrick then scored McNiel with another single.

Harlan closed the game with a run in the sixth inning. Hogue reached base on a single. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on another wild pitch.

Harlan (18-12) closes out the regular season Friday at home against Pineville.
