The Harlan Lady Dragons extended their current win streak to four games with an 11-1 five-inning victory over visiting Barbourville on Friday.

“That is what you like to see, especially this time of the year,” said Harlan coach Scott Lewis. “We are getting ready to to go into the All ‘A’ tournament, so hopefully we will carry this on.”

The Lady Dragons jumped on top early with three runs in the first inning.

Madison Noe led off the inning with a walk. She stole second and third base. Noe scored when Madison Brewer reached on an error at short. Brewer advanced on an error to center field, and later scored on a Jourdan Ledford double. Ledford scored the final run of the inning on another error in the outfield.

After three scoreless innings, the Lady Tigers reduced the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning. However, Harlan ended the game with eight runs in the bottom half.

Anna Karst singled to start the offense. Heather Holland followed with a single of her own. Brewer then loaded the bases when she reached on a bunt. Ledford drove in the first run of the inning with a single. Torri Mitchell singled to bring home Holland. Alyssa Mills followed with another single to drive in Brewer. Kaylee McNiel reached on a walk to force in Ledford. Noe delivered a single to drive in Mitchell and Mills. Noe and McNiel also scored to close out the win.

“It was just a matter of slowing our bats down,” Lewis said of the Lady Dragons fifth-inning outburst. “We adjusted and started being a little more patient at the plate.”

Ledford and Shanae Thomas had a double and a single to pace the Harlan offense. Noe, Karst and Brewer each contributed two singles.Holland, Mitchell, Mills and McNiel all added a single.

Noe struck out four batters, while allowing just one hit and three walks in five innings in the complete-game victory on the mound.

“Madison did an excellent job. She has really improved. She was the glue that held us together,” Lewis said.

Harlan(4-2) will face Middlesboro in the first round of the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic on Tuesday. Barbourville (0-4) will host Clay County on Monday.
