Ty Saragas will leave the Harlan football program at the top of nearly every passing category. The senior signal-caller was honored for his success recently, as he was named the Class A District 6 Player of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.
“It is a big honor, and I’m definitely proud of it,” Saragas said. “It’s a credit to my teammates and coaches. It validates a lot of hard work and dedication.”
Saragas has rewritten the passing record books at Harlan, including throwing for over 1,900 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior.
“He has had a remarkable career, and it is deserved by a kid that has worked very hard. He is a kid that has worked very hard as a three year starter for us at quarterback. He will leave here with every passing record,” said Harlan coach J.B. Donahue. “That is a big honor. There are a lot of other players in this district who were very deserving.”
In his three-years starting under center, Saragas has led the Green Dragons to a total of 17 wins and a home playoff game each season.
“This award was acquired over time. I think I was chosen for the award this year because coaches have seen how I, and the team, have progressed,” Saragas said.
During his time at Harlan, Saragas has represented the Dragons well both on and off of the football field.
“He has always been a positive representative of our school and our community, and that will only continue when he goes to the next level,” Donahue said. “I think he is a good model for younger kids to look at and realize they can get a statewide honor.”
