HCHS to host Black Bear Shootout

Harlan County High School will host the Black Bears Shootout on Saturday. The event will feature four doubleheaders, with the fifth- and sixth-grade contests first. The schedule includes: 9 a.m. — Wallins at Cawood; 11 a.m. — James A. Cawood vs Green Hills; 1 p.m. — Cumberland vs Evarts; 3 pm. — Rosspoint vs Black Mountain.

Cawood claims win over Falcons

James Smith had 15 points and Jared Creech added 11 as Cawood defeated Green Hills in fifth- and sixth-grade basketball action on Thursday.

Sean Cooper’s seven points paced the Falcons.

Busroe putback lits HMS to win

Noah Busroe’s putback with 1.5 seconds left was enough to propel Harlan to a 37-35 over Pineville in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action recently.

Busroe fired in 18 points to lead the Dragons.

Tucker Woolum’s 21 points led the Mountain Lions.

Tyler Carmical and Kilian Ledford each had 11 points as Harlan won 34-16 in the seventh-grade contest.

Troy Barton recorded 10 points as Harlan rolled to a 35-3 victory in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.
