Visiting Leslie County rallied for a 26-14 over Harlan in the Division III seventh- and eighth-grade state playoffs on Tuesday.

Harlan struck first, as quarterback Tanner Parks connected with Adam Mills o a 55-yard touchdown pass. Tyler Jenkins ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

A high snap set up Leslie County for its first score. Brady Crisp capitalized on the miscue with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Austin Smith. The two-point run was stopped and Harlan led 8-6.

Devon Foster put the Dragons back up by eight when he broke free for a 78-yard touchdown run.

Leslie struck late in the first half when Crisp found C.J. Sebastian for a 45-yard touchdown pass.

Crisp scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to put the Eagles on top. Crisp connected with Bray for the two-point conversion to make it 20-14.

Leslie County put the game out of reach in the fourth when Crisp tossed another touchdown pass to Sebastian.

Another Parks to Mills touchdown pass in the second quarter was wiped out by an inadvertent whistle on a penalty flag that was eventually picked up after officials conferred.

Harlan missed a golden opportunity to add to its lead early in the third quarter after Kilian Ledford recovered a booming Boone Allison kickoff on the Leslie 48.

The Dragons drove to the Leslie 27 before being stopped on downs. A 37-yard pass from Crisp to Connor Pray set up Crisp’s 1-yard touchdown run with 2:03 left in the third quarter. Crisp threw to Bray for the two-point conversion as Leslie took a 20-14 lead.

Allison recovered a fumble for the Dragons in the fourth quarter, but Harlan was unable to capitalize on the turnover and Leslie put the game away with 3:19 left on a 29-yard Crisp-to-Sebastian touchdown pass.

The New Harlan Patriots downed Evarts 36-14 in seventh- and eighth-grade football action on Tuesday.

The Patriots put the game away early with four touchdowns in the opening quarter.

Tyler Scearse scored the game’s first two touchdowns on a 15-yard run and a 25-yard run. Paul Stapleton scored on a 20-yard run, adn Rhett Alred added a 47-yard toucdown run.

Tommy North scored the final touchdown of the first half on a 2-yard run to make it 30-0.

Evarts scored 50-yard pass from Ethan Baird to Jake Bushin the third quarter.

Alred responded with a 55-yard kickoff return for a score.

Dalton Wiggins scored on a 3-yard run for Evarts in the fourth quarter and Jared Daniels added the two-point conversion.

New Harlan (5-5) will travel to Corbin on Saturday for a 6 p.m. game in the Division II state playoffs. Evarts (1-7) will close its schedule on Oct. 18 at home against Thomas Walker, Va.

Evarts remained unbeaten with a 22-2 victory over New Harlan in the fifth- and sixth-grade contest.

New Harlan jumped up early as the Pats scored on a safety.

However, Brendan Osborne took over from that point, scoring the three touchdowns. Osborned went in from 30-yards out to give Evarts the lead in the second quarter. Christian Jones ran in the two-point conversion.

Osborne scored again in the third quarter, this time on a 63-yard run. Jones added the two-point conversion to push the lead to 16-2.

Osborne closed the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown run.

New Harlan will face Cumberland in the first round of the county fifth- adn sixth-grade playoffs next week. The winner will face Evarts in the championship.
