Black Mountain defeats Evarts

Rebecca Middleton fired in 18 points to lift Black Mountain (10-0) to a 55-18 victory at Evarts in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action on Monday.

Natalie Middleton led Evarts with six points.

Dixie Ewing’s 17 points led Evarts (7-0) to 37-21 victory in the fifth- and sixth-grade contest.

Alyssa Cochran had 12 points to lead Black Mountain.

In previously unreported action, Evarts downed James A. Cawood 39-13 and cruised to a 38-0 win over Green Hills in fifth- and sixth-grade contests.

Black Mountain will travel to Cawood today, while Evarts will host Cumberland.

Pats fall to South Pulaski

The New Harlan Patriots fell 30-8 to middle school power South Pulaski in the Dallas Skidmore Memorial Classic at Bell County on Saturday.

South Pulaski scored the game’s first 30 points before New Harlan’s Paul Stapleton scored on a 9-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. Stapleton added the two-point conversion.

New Harlan returns to action Thursday at home against Bell County.

New Harlan (3-2) rallied for a 22-12 win over Whitley Central in fifth- and sixth-grade football action.

The Patriots trailed 12-0 going into the third quarter when Dalton Johnson broke free on a 55-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit in half.

Blake Biggs rumbled 35 yards to pull the Patriots even before Johnson’s two-point conversion put them ahead.

Biggs scored on a 30-yard run in the fourth quarter and added the two-point conversion.
