Dragons split doubleheader at Hancock Co.

The Harlan Green Dragons split a doubleheader Thursday at Hancock County, Tenn. on Thursday.

Senior catcher Zach Hollins led the Dragons to a 6-2 win with two singles and three RBI. Christian Turbyfill added a double. Jordan Turbyfill, Dylan McNiel, Tye Patrick and Austin Browning added one single each.

Harlan trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth inning when Patrick and Browning started a rally with singles. Hollins brought in a run with a sacrifice fly and Jordan Turbyfill singled home another run.

Hancock County pulled even in the bottom of the inning before the Dragons won with a four-run sixth inning highlighted by Hollins’ two-run single. Christian Turbyfill singled to start the inning and scored on McNiel’s double.

Jacob Clark earned the win as he struck out four in five innings. McNiel pitched one hitless inning with two strikeouts and a walk.

“We got to play a lot of players. The team started hitting the ball a little bit, and we played decent defense,” Burns. “

Hancock County won the nightcap with the help of a six-run first inning.

Tyler Grubbs led the Harlan offense with a triple and double. Jordan Turbyfill doubled. Colby Wilson, Corey Burns and Marshall Ward added singles.

Austin Miller suffered the loss as he gave up six runs in one inning. Ward allowed three runs in three innings and struck out six.

Harlan (4-5) returns to action Tuesday at home against Leslie County.
