The Harlan County Black Bears tipped off the 2012 basketball season with a 72-58 victory over visiting Cumberland Gap, Tenn., in a scrimmage on Thursday.
Seniors Tyler Brewer and Alex Sergent each recorded 20 points to pace the Bears in the win.
Harlan County led by just three at the break, but outscored the Panthers 35-24 in the second half to pull away for the win.
Tyler Miller and Chad Massingill combined to hit nine-of-10 free throws in the final quarter to keep the Bears on top.
Harlan County downed Cumberland Gap 40-16 in the junior varsity contest.
Zack Wilson’s 12 points led the Black Bears in the win.
Harlan County returns to action Monday at home against Pineville in a Southeastern Kentucky Conference panorama.
