Letter to the Editor

Editor,

I appreciated Mark Bell’s article on the tax increase for property owners in Harlan County. The American people are once again experiencing the tyranny of government.

My question is this: “Why can’t government be compelled to live strictly within its budget, the same way that you and I do?”

I get so tired of hearing public officials saying, “We had no choice but vote for a minimum tax increase or we would lose money.”

So what? When the same song is sung year after year, the lyrics become meaningless. I have personally witnessed waste in government funds on a ground scale.

If you and I operated our homes and businesses in the way that the government operates, we would soon be bankrupt.
