Shoe drive planned by Harlan County RAP league
Harlan County Rap Basketball, in cooperation with Home Federal Bank and the Family Resource and Youth Service Centers of Harlan County Schools and Harlan Independent Schools, is sponsoring the first “ Rap Their Feet” shoe drive. This program will allow the FRYSC at each school to have shoes ready for students when the 2014-2015 school year begins.
Individuals may donate new or gently used shoes by dropping them off at any FRYSC or at either Home Federal Bank location. Also, cash donations will be accepted at Home Federal Bank.
After receiving an abundance of community support for our program. HC RAP is giving back to its youth through programs such as the “Rap Their Feet” drive.
“Hopefully, this will take away some financial burden that so many of our families in Harlan County face today,” said Harlan County RAP director Greg Coldiron, a former all-state basketball player at Cawood who went on to a successful coaching career that included a regional championship in 2003 at Powell County. “As everyone knows there is nothing like getting that new pair of shoes for the beginning of school.
From the communications I have had with our FRYSC directors they are excited about this program. They know as well as anyone how big the need is for this.”
You can take part in this shoe drive by contacting HC Rap at 859-420-1450 or by contacting any FRYSC official at any school in the Harlan County Schools or the Harlan Independent Schools. You may also stop by either Home Federal Bank in the Village Mall or their downtown location.
