Kaitlyn Stittums had five hits in five at bats, including a triple and double, and scored three runs to help Harlan County hold off an upset bid by Pineville in a 9-7 win Friday.


Farren Clark and Tia King each added two hits for the 3-1 Lady Bears. Clark drove in three runs with two doubles. Chyanna Harris, Jessie Johnson and Amber Creech added one hit each.


Destinee Jenkins pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and five walks. She gave up six hits and four earned runs.


Hoskins and Lee-Theis led the host Lady Lions with two hits each.


Harlan County lost a 9-5 heartbreaker to visiting Lee, Va., on Thursday in eight innings. The Lady Bears appeared to have the game won in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the HCHS runner was called out at the plate to force extra innings.


Bridget Robinson led Harlan County with three hits, including a double. Mallory Johnson had two hits. Stittums added a triple. Clark contributed a double and two RBI. Harris had a hit and drove in three runs. King, Jenkins and Jessie Johnson added one hit each.


Jenkins pitched a complete game, giving up six hits while walking one and striking out seven. Only four of the runs she surrendered were earned.
