Harlan was unable to win more than nine games in either of the past two seasons. Less than halfway through the current season, it’s safe to say the Green Dragons will surpass that mark in 2014. David Parks squad earned its ninth victory on Friday in a 82-37 thrashing of Red Bird.
The host Cardinals hung around in the first quarter. Harlan junior Tyler Miller hit five shots in the opening period to lift the Dragons to a 14-11 advantage. Miller finished with 21 points to lead all scorers.
Harlan took control in the second quarter. The Dragons forced Red Bird into 11 turnovers in the period to stretch the advantage to 14 points at the half. The Cardinals committed 32 turnovers in the contest. Manny Davis hit five of six shots in the quarter, while Drew Parks, Noah Busroe and Miller had two baskets each.
The Green Dragons took a 66-30 lead after three quarters. Harlan substituted heavily throughout the second half. Brandon Huff and Leighton Piper each had two baskets each and Jordan Dupar, Davis and Tanner Parks with one each.
Harlan (9-2) returns to action today at Harlan County in a 52nd District contest. Red Bird (0-5) will host Riverside Christian.
