John Norman Monhollen, age 63 of Lynch, KY, went home to be with Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at his residence after losing a six month battle with cancer. He was born May 13, 1950 in Lynch, KY to the late Corb L. Monhollen and Luella Burgan Monhollen.
John retired as a coal miner from ARCH Coal subsidiaries (Arch of Kentucky and Cumberland Resources) after 39 years of dependable service. John was a member and former pastor on two different occasions at the Gilliam Chapel Baptist Church in Cumberland, KY. When he wasn’t pastoring, he was evangelizing. John would tell you his greatest accomplishments were witnessing and winning souls for the Kingdom of God, not being ashamed of the gospel and sharing it with everyone he met. John was Administrator over Tri-City Gospel Crusade street ministry. He was dedicated to serving the Lord, always putting Jesus Christ first.
In addition to his father, John is preceded in death by two brothers, Eric Monhollen and Louis Monhollen.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of almost 40 years, Darlene Lawson Monhollen of Lynch; daughter, Christina Monhollen, and two grandsons, Caleb and Nathaniel Causey, of Lexington, KY; son, Johnathan Monhollen and his wife, Angel Cantrell, and two granddaughters, Khloe and Kylie Monhollen, of Lynch; mother, Luella Marie Monhollen of Knoxville, TN; brothers, Garry Monhollen and wife, Sheila, of Oak Ridge, TN, Lynn Monhollen and wife, Linda, of Rosspoint, KY, Greg Monhollen and wife, Theresa, of Charleston, SC and Bryan Monhollen and wife, Jackie, of Charleston, SC; two ex-sister-in-laws that he continued to love as sisters, JoAnn Soltess Monhollen of Oak Ridge, TN and Linda Deal Monhollen Powers of Knoxville, TN; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.
A “Going Home” Celebration will be held between 6 – 9 pm in the Chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY on Friday, September 20, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 21, 2013, with Pastor Jerry Hickman, Brick Church, Jasper, VA and Billy Boggs, Rockvine Baptist Church, officiating. The family will travel to Corbin, KY to the Monhollen Cemetery and everyone is welcome to attend the graveside service for the final goodbye.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
