Harlan County native Ed Zuercher has been named as the interim city manager of Phoenix, Ariz. Zuercher is currently assistant city manager for that city, with a current estimated population of 1.4 million.
Zuercher currently oversees deputy city manager with specific responsibilities over police, emergency management, parks and recreation, aviation and strategic planning.
Zuercher started with Phoenix as a management intern. He is a graduate of Goshen College in Indiana with a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas.
His first job was as a paper boy with the Harlan Daily Enterprise.
