National mine rescue contest conducted

The Kentucky Coal Academy Mine Rescue Team member David Mackey placed third in the 2013 National Mine Rescue Pre-Shift contest held in Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 9-12.
There were 125 contestants from across the nation competed in the Pre-Shift Contest.
Mackey, who is employed with KenAmerican Resources in Muhlenberg County, captured the first-place pre-shift trophy for best finish in Kentucky.
The National Mining Association (NMA) sponsored this year’s National Mine Rescue Contest, which is held every other year.`
NMA is the United States mining’s advocate in Washington D.C.
Its mission is to build support for public policies that will help Americans fully and responsibly benefit from domestic coal and mineral resources.
The Kentucky Coal Academy Mine Rescue Team, under the direction of Danny Knott, competed in other contests in this year’s national competition including bench and first aid as well as mine rescue.
