Finalizing plans for their upcoming Labor Day Festival slated for Saturday, members of the Evarts Tourist and Convention Commission reported everything is now in place for the event, which will be held in downtown Evarts.
After a lengthy discussion, a motion was made and approved to provide inflatables for the children to enjoy during the festival.
“We’ve got a lot of vendors who have filled out their applications, but we also have a lot who have said they will be here but haven’t filled out an application yet,” said City Clerk Kristi Lamb. “We need to get a final count. So, we encourage everyone who plans to have a booth or table to contact city hall before the event.”
Chairwoman Janice Napier asked if the Harlan County Shriners will be providing their train for the event and member Henry Shackleford said that they have been confirmed.
After reviewing the financial report, members discussed the city’s restaurant tax income.
“Since Dairy Hut was closed (because of storm damage) it has caused some of our restaurant tax income to decrease,” said Lamb. “They are presently operating out of the Marathon Service Station they own across the street.”
In other action, commission members discussed the replacement of tourist commission member Kevin Couch, who has filed to run for a seat on the city council. Napier said Couch will remain a member of the tourist commission until the end of December.
