Out-of-work miners hopeful for jobs

Laid off coal miners lined up to apply for jobs being offered by Patriot Coal’s Highland Mine in Western Kentucky during a job fair held at the Harlan Center on Thursday. The fair was hosted by Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program (EKCEP).
Laid off miner Joshua Scott, right, 25 of Pineville, traveled to Harlan County to put in his application. Taking applications were Tonya McCullough, left, Patriot Coal’s Highland Mine Human Resources Manager, and Doug Bender, Patriot Coal’s Highland Mine Operations Manager.
