Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts Adam Edelen’s office has verified the annual audit for the Harlan Fiscal Court is due to be released in the coming weeks.
According to Stephenie Hoelscher, communications director for the Kentucky auditor’s office, it could be a month or more before the final audit is released to the public.
“It (the audit) has not been released yet,” said Hoelscher. “We did have our exit conference with county officials, but we now go back and finalize the report. It could be a few more weeks before release.”
Harlan County Judge-Executive Joe Grieshop was unavailable for comment Wednesday afternoon.
The auditor’s office is responsible under Kentucky law for annual audits of all state agencies and all private and semi-private agencies receiving state funds.
The auditor’s website defines his duties as the following: “The auditor’s office conducts or directs a variety of engagements that include financial audits, agreed upon procedures, performance audits, and special examinations. These audits are performed for various state agencies, fiscal courts, sheriffs, county clerks, circuit clerks, property valuation administrator and other agencies that receive public funding.”
Findings of the audit will be published when released by the auditor’s office.
