The Cumberland Tourist and Convention Commission and the Tri-City Heritage Development Corporation have been working toward a Trail Town certification over the past year.

The Trail Town Initiative is a designation along a long distance trail or adjacent to an extensive trail system.

Whether the trail is a hiking trail, water trail, rail trail, users can venture from the path to explore the unique scenery, commerce and heritage that each trail town has to offer.

Both trail users and residents of the town would be able to walk or drive to find the goods and services they need. The State Adventure Tourism Director Elaine Wilson has been working them through this process, stated the Cumberland Tourism Director Tracy Bailey and have met the criteria that will allow trail town certification.

The Trail Town Task Force is comprised of committees and is as follows:

* Horse Trails

* Bicycle

* Hiking/Walking

* Fishing/Waterways

* Motorcycle

Even though Cumberland has not been certified as an official Trail Town yet, they have already begun to see benefits.
