Harlan County ace Connor Leisge, who won 20 games on the mound for the Black Bears over the past three seasons, was one of two 13th Region seniors selected by region coaches to play in the Senior East-West all-star game.
Leisge was 7-4 as a senior, including a win over Middlesboro in the 52nd District Tournament championship game. It was the second straight district championship victory for the senior righthander, who also beat Middlesboro in last year’s finals. Leisge also saw action at first base and shortstop and was among the team’s top hitters.
Leisge posted an 8-3 record as a junior, following the district championship win with a victory over Clay County to give the Bears the first regional tournament win in school history.
Harlan County finished as runner up to Middlesboro in 2012 and Leisge posted a 5-0 record on the mound as a sophomore.
Clay County pitcher/infielder Tyler Allen was the other senior selected to represent the 13th Region in the senior game. Harlan County outfielder Scotty Bailey and North Laurel outfielder Austin Thompson were picked as alternates.
South Laurel’s Daniel Neal and North Laurel’s Ethan Maxey will represent the 13th Region in the junior all-star game. North Laurel’s Logan Mallory and Middlesboro’s Jake Brock are the alternates.
Knox Central’s Evan Lay, South Laurel’s Braden Miller and Corbin’s Corey Ledington were the sophomores selected from the region. Knox Central’s Drew Mills and North Laurel’s Jake McWhorter were picked as alternates.
