SKCTC captures notice, bronze award

Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College was the recipient of an award issued recently during the annual meeting of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR), held at Hilton Head, S.C. The award, won by SKCTC, was accepted by Tiffany B. Scott whose design and creation of a 10x8 feet floor display was fashioned for the Kentucky Safety Training Institute, capturing much notice and a bronze award in the banners and outdoor media category.
The NCMPR District 2 event, and the accompanying Medallion Awards ceremony, is held each autumn. The organization is comprised of community colleges in 11 southeastern states, along with the Bahamas and Bermuda.
Overall, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, of which Southeast is affiliated, won a total of 23 awards for outstanding achievement in marketing communications. This year, NCMPR District 2 received 427 award entries in more than 42 categories. KCTCS received more awards than any other community college system within the district.
Scott, who has worked at Southeast since 2006, is a public relations specialist and graphic designer. The winning entry from SKCTC was developed for the Kentucky Safety Training Institute that is maintained by the college. That entity travels across the nation providing specialized training for workers at national parks and within the industrial realm. The floor display was produced, according to Scott, to showcase KSTI and its mission; it is often displayed at trade shows and fairs and taken to job locations across the United States.
She noted what an honor it is to have her work singled out by the NCMPR professionals.
“It’s a tremendous compliment to be able to bring this award back to Southeast,” she said. “It means so much to be recognized by professionals within your field. The conference provided me with the opportunity to network with other PR and marketing professionals from numerous states. I recognized very quickly that the community colleges in Kentucky are well respected and admired for their advanced and cutting-edge approach to marketing. I am extremely proud to be a part of a college, and a system, that recognizes the importance of public relations and marketing within higher education and puts the necessary resources into place to carry out those functions.”
A native of Cumberland, she resides in Letcher County with her husband, Ernie, and their daughter, Addyson.
