The routine task of serving warrants ended with a woman, her husband and a son all going to jail on various charges.

Sherry Jones, 54, Fred M. Jones, 58, and Robert Anthony Marlowe, 30, all of Loyall, were arrested on Wednesday by Loyall City Police Chief Mike Lunsford.

“Yesterday I received complaints on Sherry Jones and Marlowe, who live next door to Fred Jones” said Lunsford. “Sherry and Fred are married, but they’re separated.”

Lunsford said warrants for criminal mischief had been obtained on Sherry Jones and Marlowe.

“Fred Jones took a warrant out on them for first-degree criminal mischief after they threw rocks and bricks and hit his Harley-Davidson motorcycle,” Lunsford said.

According to Lunsford, the motorcycle’s gas tank was dented, causing approximately $500 damage to the Harley. In addition, approximately $500 in damages was done to Fred Jones’ truck when the pair burned a flag that was hanging on the truck, leaving a burn spot on the hood.

“The second-degree criminal mischief warrants were taken out by the landlord of Fred Jones’ house,” explained Lunsford. “His warrants stated that Sherry Jones and Marlowe were seen throwing rocks and bricks at Fred’s house, which broke a window and did an estimated $500 damage.”

Lunsford said that as he was serving the warrants for criminal mischief on Sherry Jones, he noticed two Kenwood radios and chargers that matched two that had been reported stolen.

The citation states the radios and chargers were identified by mine security through the serial numbers. The radios were from a mine located at Little Creek on KY 72.

The citation places the value of the equipment at $1,600.

“Fred Jones ended up getting a custodial interference charge when Marlowe’s girlfriend … pulls up and has Marlowe’s child, which is Fred Jones’ grandchild,” said Lunsford. “The child runs over to Fred, and Fred’s been drinking a little bit … and he kept telling us he wouldn’t give the child up.”

Lunsford said he and Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Bailey had to retrieve the child.

“That’s how he wound up with a custodial interference charge, he wouldn’t give the child up,” said Lunsford.

Lunsford said Marlowe was not present when Fred and Sherry Jones were arrested. He went back to the house later, located Marlowe hiding in a closet, and served Marlowe with warrants for first- and second-degree criminal mischief at that time.

Sherry Jones was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000, and first and second-degree criminal mischief. She was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on bonds totaling $3,000 secured by 10 percent.

Fred Jones was charged with custodial interference and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

Marlowe was charged with first and second-degree criminal mischief and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on bonds totaling $3,000 secured by 10 percent.
