A wrecked vehicle was found in a creek at Bledsoe on Sunday morning with a woman inside. The vehicle was found by someone passing by, who then called emergency personnel. Laura Beth Spencer, of Piney Flats, Tenn., was found alone in the vehicle and she did not survive the crash. The vehicle she was found inside was a 1998 Toyota Camry. Kentucky State Police Trooper Michael Cornett is investigating a single-vehicle crash on KY 221 at Bledsoe around 12:25 p.m. on Sunday.


According to a press release, Laura Beth Spencer, 25, of Piney Flats, Tenn., was traveling westbound on KY 221 in a 1998 Toyota Camry. Spencer lost control of her vehicle and exited the roadway, striking a tree. The vehicle came to final rest on its top in a stream. Spencer was pronounced dead at the scene by Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Rich. She was not wearing a seat belt.


The collision is being investigated by Cornett, KSP Collision Reconstructionist. He was assisted on scene by troopers Andy Soltess and Rodney Sturgill. Johnson’s LifeCare EMS and the Bledsoe Fire Department.
