Hundreds filled the James A. Cawood Elementary School gymnasium during the Hilltop Ministry’s “Happy Birthday Jesus” event held there on Saturday.

Giving away 650 food baskets, coats, toys, shoes and clothing donated by groups and many others, Hilltop Ministry co-director Glen Marlow said he was pleased with those attending and volunteering. He said he wished he could help even more.

“We work all year getting ready for several events we do throughout the year,” said Marlow. “It’s especially hard for so many this year and we’re blessed we had so many to help us accomplish our goals. We couldn’t do this without the help of so many. This is what we do and what God expects us to do — help others in any way we can. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be a lot, maybe you just helped by donating a coat or a box of toys, but to see the smiles of kids and their parents, makes that effort become so big. We appreciate everyone’s help.”
