Teen dies following motorcycle crash

Kentucky State Police Trooper Jared Boggs is investigating a motorcycle collision that occurred on U.S. 421 on Friday at Cawood. The incident resulted in the death of an Evarts teen.

According to information from KSP Public Affair’s Officer Shane Jacobs, Brandon Rigney, 19, was operating a 2007 motorcycle south on U.S. 421 when he lost control and ran off the roadway.

Jacobs said Rigney was transported to Harlan ARH Hospital by Johnson’s LifeCare Ambulance Service where he was pronounced dead.

Jacobs said alcohol is not suspected as a contributor in the crash, and Rigney was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation by Boggs. He was assisted at the scene by Trooper Jimmy Halcomb, KSP Det. Kevin Miller and Allen’s Wrecker Service.
