Purse theft leads to arrests

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men on charges stemming from the theft of a purse.

Bruce Z. Madden, 21, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Sgt. Winston Yeary on Sunday. Joshua Dunson, 35, of Lynch, was arrested on Wednesday by Yeary.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the arrests stem from the theft of a purse from a woman containing $150 on April 5. The victim was carrying groceries into an apartment at Eastbrook Apartments at Black Joe. Dunson took the purse from the victim’s car, got into a car driven by Madden and the two drove off.

The case is being investigated by Yeary. He was assisted by Harlan County Sheriff Leslie “Smitty” Smith and officers with the Cumberland City Police Department and the Harlan City Police Department.

Madden and Dunson were both charged with theft by unlawful taking under $500 and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
