Kentucky State Police detectives are investigating possible human remains found near Cawood on Tuesday.

According to a press release, Kentucky State Police Post 10 received information at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday about possible human remains located in a wooded area off of Mountain Oaks Subdivision. Mountain Oaks Subdivision is located near the Cawood community.

KSP troopers, detectives, and the Harlan County Coroner responded to the scene.

Police said there is no information at this time whether the remains are those of a Harlan County man who went missing approximately two weeks ago.

According to police, Tommy Ingersoll, 49, of Harlan, left his home to go for a walk and has not been seen since. Ingersoll is approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall with black hair, blue eyes, and a beard. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket with a hood, a white ball cap, blue jeans and T-shirt.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
