The Harlan County Run with Color is due to make its yearly appearance soon in Harlan.
Harlan City Tourism Director Brandon Pennington said this year’s run will be on April 9 at 9 a.m.
“This is our third-annual run,” Pennington said. “Typically, we have about 400 to 500 people in downtown Harlan for the race.”
According to Pennington, the race is a 5k run.
“There will be five stations where participants will get either a color powder or a color liquid splashed on them,” Pennington said. “By the time you finish the race, you’re covered different colors including red, blue, green and yellow. It’s a really fun event.”
Pennington explained the event is family friendly, and isn’t just about competition.
“You don’t have to run,” Pennington explained. “You can walk, you can skip, you can cartwheel across the finish line, whatever you want to do. It’s not about the time, it’s about having fun.”
Pennington said the colors participants will be covered with can be easily washed off of the participants and their clothing.
“It’s washable,” said Pennington. “We do have a waiver that says we suggest you don’t run with a phone, because of the liquid color. We don’t want to damage any electronics or anything like that.”
The proceeds from the run will be used to benefit Relay for Life, Pennington said.
“We’ve chosen them as a charity to donate to every year,” Pennington said.
Those who wish to register can do so online at https://harlantourism.redpodium.com/harlan-county-run-with-…
Pennington said a link is also provided for online registration on the Harlan Tourism Facebook page. You can also register for the run by calling 606-573-4156 or go to the Harlan Center in downtown Harlan and fill out a registration form.
“The cost is $25 for early registration, and $30 the day of the race,” Pennington said. ”Early registration will close on April 1.”
Pennington says the first 200 registered runners are guaranteed a T-shirt.
