The Harlan High School cheerleaders traveled to Northern Kentucky University last week to cheer for the Harlan Lady Dragons in the girls state tournament.
They returned with a state championship trophy of their own.
“It is hard to put into words how proud I am of this team,” said Harlan coach Tracy Gilbert. “They have worked hard and come so far this year. Just getting to experience a Sweet Sixteen is memorable, but winning will be something they will never forget. I am so fortunate to have had the pleasure of working with this amazing group.”
“I’m so proud of all the accomplishments our squad has made over the past year,” said Elyssa Slusher. “We have overcome so many obstacles and made vast improvements since the beginning of the season. Our hard work and dedication have definitely paid off. I’m grateful to have spent the past four years on a great squad with amazing people. Ending my senior season as state cheer champs couldn’t be more perfect.”
“I am so proud of this team,” said Madison Brewer. “We have worked so hard for this all year and it’s great to see all of our hard work pay off.”
It has been a blessing to be a part of this team,” added Lauren McCurry. “Through hard work and dedication, we have improved tremendously since the beginning of the season, and we were able to end our season with an incredible honor of placing first in the girls Sweet Sixteen cheer competition. As a senior, I will miss cheering at Harlan, but I know that the future of HHS cheerleading will be very successful”
