The Harlan Chamber of Commerce discussed the upcoming Harlan County Chamber of Commerce Gala during a meeting on Wednesday.
Following a presentation by Appalachian Wildlife Foundation CEO David Ledford about a planned Wildlife Center near the Bridge to Nowhere in Bell County, chamber president Flora Asher moved on to an update on the Harlan Chamber of Commerce Gala, which was postponed last month due to inclement weather.
“I understand that Jordan (Smith) is available to be here on Feb. 25,” Asher said. “So we will set the date for the gala on Feb. 25.”
Asher said they had been waiting to hear from Smith and his manager since postponing the gala.
“We were waiting to hear as to the day he could be back in Harlan County and he can be here on Feb. 25,” Asher said. “So get your reservations for your table…we will be actively pushing that aggressively in order to get good attendance and show him the support he deserves.”
Asher asked Ron Frazier for an update on the chamber’s membership.
“We just need to make sure we pay our 2016 membership dues,” said Frazier. “They are due right now. You can pay them on the website, or if you need an invoice just let me know and I’ll get you one.”
Asher mentioned some people had asked for membership applications.
“I’ve got a few blank applications,” said Frazier. “Just see me and I’ll give you one.”
Asher then mentioned the Tri-City Chamber of Commerce meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m.
“Whether you are from that area or from here, I think we need to attend,” Asher said. “Hopefully we can take a group up there and join them next week.”
