It is less than a month into the new year and Jordan Smith, Harlan County native and Season 9 winner of The Voice, has already had an incredible year in both his musical and personal life.
Smith’s most recent accomplishment was singing the national anthem at the divisional round playoff game between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Saturday. Smith sang for the massive crowd and those watching the game at home just prior to kickoff at 1 p.m.
Last week, Smith posted on his Facebook page that he had “the honor of working with not only the incomparable David Foster, but also the legendary Kirk Franklin.”
Smith goes on to say just to meet Franklin was a dream come true and elaborates he has been working with him and will feature him on his upcoming album. Smith’s post ends with him saying the choir Franklin brought to the studio was “off the chain” and he cannot wait for fans to hear what they have been cooking up in the studio.
Franklin is an American gospel musician, choir director and author. His resume includes seven Grammy awards.
Foster is a 16-time Grammy winning record producer and musician who has worked with the likes of Michael Buble and Josh Groban.
In addition to collaborating with Foster on his upcoming album, the duo recently took a break from recording to perform together at the People’s Choice Awards. Singing the classic hit ‘You Are So Beautiful’ by the legendary Joe Cocker, the performance received rave reviews and is available on iTunes.
Prior to the memorable performance on the awards show, Smith performed the national anthem at the 2016 NHL Winter Classic in Boston on New Year’s Day and then sang the national anthem at the UK basketball game at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
In addition to singing at the NHL Winter Classic on New Years Day, Smith posted on Facebook he had proposed to his girlfriend of three years, Kristen Denny, and she said yes. A photo of the couple and the engagement ring and caption ‘She said YES!’ has since went viral.
To date, Smith has sold more than 1 million singles and is the best selling artist in the show’s history.
Fans can keep up to date with Smith’s events by following him on social media.
