Folks looking for a way to bring in the New Year and help a good cause at the same time are welcome at Cosmic Bingo, an event designed to be a good time for all as well as benefit the Harlan County Humane Society.
Harlan County Humane Society President Marcella Chadwick said the Humane Society hosts bingo on a regular schedule, but occasionally they do something special, and the New Year’s Eve Cosmic Bingo falls into that category.
“Everything will be under black light,” Chadwick said. “The cards glow, the dabbers glow, we’ll have music going — that’s what makes it cosmic — people just get together and have a good time while playing bingo, and hopefully win a little money.”
According to Chadwick, the proceeds will go to the Harlan County Humane Society.
“We have bingo twice a week,” Chadwick said. “But we have special sessions every now and then.”
Tickets are available at the door for $30 each. Though bingo is the main attraction, there are other things planned to make for an entertaining evening.
“We’re doing a potluck dinner, and there’s going to be a live band,” Chadwick said.
The music will be a mix of styles such as pop, rock and oldies.
“We thought we’d take the opportunity to give people something to do while helping out a good cause,” said Chadwick.
Chadwick mentioned the Humane Society runs a low-cost spay and neuter clinic and works on animal welfare cases involving issues such as abuse and neglect of animals.
Chadwick explained there are only 130 tickets available, and tickets can be pre-purchase by calling 606-273-5365.
The game will be held at the Totz Bingo Hall in the Totz community.
“Come out and have a good time if you don’t have anything to do for New Year’s,” said Chadwick. “Come out and we’ll bring in the New Year’s with good fun, and we’re going to have door prices before the bingo game starts. The bingo game is going to start at 12:01 a.m. on New Year’s day, but the doors will open at 8 p.m. on Thursday.”
