A man and a woman are facing drug charges after an off-duty officer allegedly found the woman passed out in her car.
Vanessa Roberts, 44, of Baxter, was arrested on Thursday by Harlan City Police Officer Tyler Hensley.
According to a citation, HPD Officer George Young was off duty and noticed Roberts in the driver seat of a vehicle. She appeared to have passed out. Roberts could not produce a driver’s license, or insurance card. She failed a field sobriety test, her eyes were constricted and she was unsteady on her feet. A search found multiple pills, with several pills wrapped inside a Goody wrapper and a Goody medicine pack. The passenger, Justin Roberts, also was found in possession of pills and $1,114 in cash.
Justin Roberts, 28, of Closplint, was arrested by HPD Officer Justin Luttrell on Thursday.
A citation states as Young was speaking to Vanessa Roberts, Justin Roberts walked out of the store. Young said Justin Roberts got into the passenger side of the vehicle and began digging through a Grippo’s Potato Chips bag. He handed Young the bag which was found to contain a clear plastic baggie containing multiple pills.
Vanessa Roberts was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, license to be in possession, failure to produce insurance card, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, second- and third-degree possession of a controlled substance and second- and third-degree trafficking a controlled substance. She was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.
Justin Roberts was charged with public intoxication by controlled substance, third-degree trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of third-degree possession of a controlled substance. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $7,500 full cash bond.

• Larry Bruce Huff, 30, of Cumberland, was arrested on Wednesday by Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Burton. Huff was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, operating an ATV on a roadway, operating ATV without headgear and operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $7,500 bond secured by 10 percent;
• Cody Pace, 20, of Harlan, was arrested on Saturday by HPD Officer Brandon Watts. Pace was charged with second-degree trafficking a controlled substance and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;
• Jonathan Felosi, 36, of Benham, was arrested by Benham City Police Officer Ryan Shepherd on Wednesday. Felosi was charged with public intoxication by controlled substance, resisting arrest first-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, first-degree promoting contraband, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana theft of identity of another, giving officer a false name or address and second-degree terroristic threatening. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.
