The third annual “Brooklyhn’s Blankets” benefit concert is coming up on Dec. 10, and all it takes to attend is the donation of a new blanket. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Country music artist and Lynch native Brooklyhn Woods started “Brooklyhn’s Blankets” in October 2013.
Woods began organizing the concert as a way to help needy children in the area.
“We collect blankets for underprivileged children,” said Woods a few days before the second-annual concert in Dec. 2014. “I have a lot of my friends from all over eastern Kentucky come to the Betty Howard Memorial Theater in Benham and we host a concert. Admission is either a blanket donation or a monetary donation.”
The show features a number of artists in addition to Woods, including Kelsie May, Kori Breeding, Chloe Smith, Brooklyn Collins, Blair Combs, Jarrod Nunnelley, Jake Ravazi, Marie Garton, Robby Vaughn, The Tri-City Ensemble and The Tri-City Children’s Choir.
“Artists from far and near will gather for a magical night of music,” Woods said.
In addition to the concert, there are other Christmastime activities to indulge in before the show.
“Before the concert, the Benham Coal Mining Museum will be open from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. for those attending the concert to take a peek at the Festival of Trees,” Woods said. “Santa Claus will be joining us for the evening from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Santa photos will be taken (and available) for purchase. We hope that you can join us for a great evening of music and giving in hopes of making a child’s holiday season just a little bit warmer.”
Woods said monetary donations are used to purchase more blankets.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Betty Howard Coal Miner’s Memorial Theater in Benham on Dec. 10.
