The 2015 Christmas season is upon us, and Harlan County is celebrating with three annual parades this weekend in Cumberland, Harlan and Evarts.
The Tri-Cities Christmas Parade will be held Friday in downtown Cumberland. This year’s theme is “Candy Canes and Christmas Carols.”
The grand marshal will be Doug Yaden. He is a retired from the U.S. Postal Service and a longtime member of the Cumberland Fire Department, where he currently serves as fire chief.
Lineup is at 4 p.m., and the parade will begin at 5 p.m. starting along U.S. 119 at the red light (road will be numbered) and ending at Family Dollar.
The Harlan County Christmas Parade will be held on Dec. 5, sponsored by the Harlan County Chamber of Commerce, Harlan Daily Enterprise and Harlan Tourist Commission in cooperation with the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Harlan. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. with lineup beginning at 4 p.m. at Harlan Baptist Church. The alternate date of the parade will be at 2 p.m. on Dec. 6 with lineup at 12:30 p.m. This year’s theme is “Harlan County Heroes.”
The grand marshal of the Harlan parade is Jordan Smith, our hometown contestant on ‘The Voice” and Harlan Countian of the Year. Smith is currently in California competing on The Voice, so his family will serve as grand marshal.

Residents are asked to move your vehicles two hours before the start time. You may park in the city lot or on streets unaffected by the parade. All vehicles must be moved prior to the start times. Any vehicle left parked on the street prior to the start will be towed by the police department and impounded at the owner’s expense.
The Evarts Christmas parade is scheduled on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. with lineup beginning at 1 p.m. This year’s theme is “Christmas Miracle.”
The grand marshal will be T.J. Brewer.
The second annual Christmas at the Center will be held on Dec. 5 at the Harlan Center with all day family fun. A Jingle Bell Jog 5K will begin the festivities, from 8-10 a.m.
