In a recent telephone interview, Harlan native Jordan Smith detailed his experience on the hit reality television show “The Voice.”
Smith repeatedly described the experience and all he has encountered as ‘amazing,’ saying he would have never believed he would be meeting the people he was meeting and doing the things he has been doing.
Smith is currently in California, rehearsing everyday for next week’s live audition shows. Smith cannot say for sure what day he is performing yet, but says he cannot wait to show everyone what he has been working on.
Back at home and in nearby Bell County, fans and supporters have been organizing watch parties to support the local talent. In Harlan County, a watch party is planned at the Harlan Center on Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in attending the watch party can check Harlan Tourism’s Facebook page for details.
In Bell County, Main Street Pineville and local radio station 106.3 WRIL have been working together to plan a watch party at the historic Bell Theater in downtown Pineville. Radio host Brian O’Brien says he has been told Jordan is expected to perform on Monday and the watch party will begin at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in attending the watch party can check Main Street Pineville, The Big One and Brian O’Brien’s Facebook pages for up to date information.
Smith is currently rocking the iTunes charts, a sign Smith says he hopes is an indicator of how fans will vote this week. Smith says the fact that fans are willing to spend money to purchase his take on such wonderful songs is a blessing for him and he hopes to continue to use his talent as God sees fit, hopefully inspiring and encouraging people along the way.
Smith has posted the details of how the live shows work on his Facebook page, so fans can vote the maximum number of times per method, in order to get him into the top 12 of the show. Two contestants from each team are picked by fan votes with a final contestant from each team being chosen by the team judge.
According to the post, the voting methods are different than seasons past. Fans can vote 10 times using the official Voice App during the show on Monday and Tuesday nights, can vote 10 times on the NBC website immediately after the show ends, can vote 10 times on The Voice Official Facebook page immediately after the show ends, and can buy his song on iTunes immediately after the show ends. Smith says buying the song on iTunes is the most important method of voting because if his song is in the top 10 overall charts on iTunes when voting closes, his votes will be multiplied by 10.
The voting window closes at noon EST, 9 a.m. PT. Once the 14-hour period after Smith’s episode ends, fans can no longer vote for him. However, fans can continue to buy the song on iTunes and it will go toward his overall number of cumulative votes at the end of the season.
You may follow Smith’s progress on his Facebook page and also on Twitter. You can now download his performance on iTunes. Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
