The Harlan County Boys and Girls Boos and Ghouls Club will host a Halloween Hustle 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 24 beginning at 9 a.m.
Runners and walkers will start and finish at the Cawood Ledford Boys and Girls Club in the Fairview section of Harlan.
“Boos and ghouls from the club will be at trick-or-treat stands along the way,” said HCBGC Executive Director Kateena Haynes. “If you don’t have a costume on you may be tricked. Dress up, but be safe. Don’t wear a costume that obstructs your vision.”
Pre-registration for the event is $20 for ages 13 and up and you must pre-register by 5 p.m. Oct. 9. Ages 12 and under will receive free registration, but will not receive a T-shirt, with each paid adult if received by Oct. 9. Youth shirts will be available for purchase for $10 each.
“Registration received after Oct. 9 and on the day of the race will be $25 for ages 12 and under and $30 for ages 13 and up,” said Haynes. “Halloween Hustle 5K T-shirts may or may not be available to adult participants in limited quantities on the day of the race, but pre-registered adults will be guaranteed a T-shirt.”
Anyone who wants to participate in the event may download a registration form at www.harlancountybgc.com or pick one up at the Boys and Girls Club. You may also send payment to the Cawood Ledford Boys and Girls Club, 1 Positive Place, Harlan, Kentucky 40831.
“We hope everyone will make plans to attend this event,” Haynes said. “What began just a few short years ago as a youth recreational sports league has now developed into a thriving organization that serves approximately 2,000 youths each year. We are working to influence the future of Harlan County by giving children the hope and opportunity they need to succeed. It is daunting at times, but the rewards are abundant. We owe our success to a community that cares about its children and I invite you to join us as we help Harlan County’s children realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.”
