Man jailed on sex offense charges

The Middlesboro Police Department arrested a man on Tuesday on several sex offense charges.

According to the warrants served by Lt. Tom Busic, Jerry W. Smith, 36, of Pinnacle Homes is accused of human trafficking a victim under the age of 18.

The first warrant from Dec. 21 of last year, was taken out by Officer Josh Harris stating that during Jan. 1 of 2013 through Sept. 5 of 2016, Smith subjected an underage female to human trafficking and third-degree rape. The warrant continues stating that Smith engaged in sexual intercourse with the female minor incapable of consent due to an intellectual disability.

The second warrant, sworn out on Oct. 27 of last year by Middlesboro Officer Kenny Vanover, states that Smith is accused of knowingly using a communications system for the purpose of procuring the act of deviate sexual intercourse from a minor. The act was allegedly committed from Sept. 24 through Sept. 25.

Smith was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center and is being held without bond for the rape charge and two separate cash bonds of $100,000 and $10,000 respectively for the other two charges.
