A Harlan man is facing multiple charges, including assault for allegedly stabbing a person and leaving them by the roadside.
Paul W. Rouse, 25, was arrested on Thursday by Harlan City Police Sgt. Jeff Owens.
According to the arrest warrant obtained by Kentucky State Police Trooper Andy Soltess, Rouse intentionally caused serious physical injury to another person. Rouse allegedly stabbed the victim in the back and left leg, leaving him by the side of KY 215. The victim was taken to Harlan ARH Hospital by his parents.
Rouse was charged with second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.
In other police activity:
• John T. Stephens, 51, of Coldiron, was arrested on Wednesday by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputies Danny Lewis and Hunter Marcum.
According to a press release, Lewis and Marcum were on routine patrol Wednesday night in the Coldiron area. They made a traffic stop on a 4-wheeler operated by Stephens. Several baggies of methamphetamine were located on Stephens.
According to the citation, Stephens told police he could not perform any standard sobriety tests. He removed the keys from the vehicle. A small pill container was attached to the key chain. Police asked if there was anything in the container, and he advised methamphetamine was inside. Stephens admitted to police he had smoked marijuana.
Stephens was charged with operating an ATV on roadway, driving on DUI suspended license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, and first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine).
Stephens was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.
The case remains under investigation by Lewis;
• Larry Thomas, 37, of Cawood, was served an indictment warrant on Wednesday. Thomas was indicted for flagrant non-support and persistent felony offender. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond secured by 10 percent.
