The Evarts Labor Day Festival is coming up, and the Evarts Tourism Commission held a special-called meeting on Monday to plan the event.

City Clerk Kristi Lamb kicked off the meeting, speaking about acquiring musical entertainment for the festival.

“I sent a message to the Kudzu Killers (band),” Lamb said. “They’re pretty good…I said the Evarts Tourism Commission is looking for entertainment for the Labor Day Festival.”

Lamb explained she had not gotten a final answer from the group yet.

The panel also discussed inflatables, an attraction that is very popular with children.

Lamb said any inflatable company that would like to bring their inflatable and charge and maintain it for the day should contact city hall at 606-837-0609.

The city will not be staffing the inflatable, but they will allow them to be set up should a company meet the requirements, Lamb explained.

“We’ll find a place for them, but we’re not going to staff it,” Lamb said. “That way we could at least get one here.”

A commission member mentioned the inflatables are always a big hit with the children.

In other tourism activity:

• The commission approved $300 for advertising the festival;

• The commission approved $400 per band for musical entertainment;

• Applications for a booth can be obtained from the city clerk at Evarts City Hall. A booth with water and/or electric is $20, if not equipped $10. Booth size is 10×10, if a larger booth is required multiple booths may be reserved. The Evarts Tourism Commission will be supplying water and electric only, any other items are responsibility of the vendor. All applications are due in by Sept. 1.
