For the second year in a row, Discover Downtown Middlesboro will host a wing festival.
The first annual Middlesboro Wing Fling Festival was held downtown in the Crater City Commons, located at 2018 Cumberland Avenue, last August. The participation and interest level of the new event made DDM optimistic for what the future holds as they try to continue on in their effort to revitalize the downtown area. DDM representatives said after the event, in the years to come they hoped to increase the amount of teams in the event, as well as having different types of cook offs.
Working off of the momentum of the success of last year’s event, organizers have spent months preparing for the followup festival. Organizers are hopeful this year’s event will surpass last year’s success in all aspects — participation, crowd and wing recipes.
This year’s festival is scheduled for Aug. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. and will be followed by the second concert of another second run of a successful pilot program from last year — the Levitt Amp Concert Series. There is a $5 admission to the festival and the price includes a sample of wings from all vendors.
The Levitt AMP Middlesboro Music Series returns for the second year to the Levitt AMP Middlesboro Pop-Up Park — downtown Middlesboro’s increasingly vibrant green space that was formerly a vacant, gravel lot — to augment the city’s community-driven revitalization of its economically challenged downtown, encouraging further community investment in the arts and promoting Middlesboro as a cultural destination.
Circa Blue is the scheduled entertainment for Levitt on the night of the wing fling.
The Middlesboro Wing Fling Festival benefits ROHO, Bell County Tourism, Discover Downtown Middlesboro and the Levitt Amp Concert series.
