Hollywood in Harlan

Photos by Joe P. Asher “Above Suspicion” is under production in Harlan. Film crews were spotted on Thursday working at the Christ Episcopal Church at the corner intersection of Williams and Central Streets in downtown Harlan. The film stars Emilia Clarke, who currently appears on HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones” and in the newly-released film “Me Before You,” as well as Jack Huston, probably best known for another HBO series, “Boardwalk Empire.” The film is reportedly based on the story of Mark Putnam, a former FBI agent based in Pike County. He was convicted 26 years ago of strangling his pregnant lover and informant, Susan Daniels Smith, and then hiding her body, which was recovered from a grassy ravine a year later.
