Investigation leads to search warrant

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant on Thursday at the residence of Bethel Stewart Jr. on Hal Street in Cawood.

According to a press release, the search warrant was a result of an investigation being conducted by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival at the location, individuals were observed inside the residence attempting to hide or destroy drugs or drug paraphernalia. Deputies forced entry into the residence, and upon execution of the search warrant deputies located and seized numerous controlled substances believed to be Xanax, Suboxone, and methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and cash.

Michael Earls, 31, of Cawood was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Meagan Happney, 29, of Cawood was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jimmy Bright, 23, of Cawood was arrested and charged with second- and third-degree trafficking in controlled substance.

All three were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

The investigation is continuing by Sgt. Chris Brewer. Brewer was assisted in executing the search warrant by Sheriff Leslie “Smitty” Smith, Chief Deputy Matt Cope and Harlan County Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives.
